Girls 1500 meter run kicks it into gear as the gun goes off.

280 athletes. 19 coaches. 17 events. 1 team.

The spring sports season is officially underway, and we all know what that means. Track is back.

Sunsets tradition of running domination officially was underway as of February 26, and is in full throttle. The girls concluded their run at Hayward field last may with a 2nd place finish to the omni-dominant Jesuit, and return this year hungry for more.

Junior Kelly Makin knows this better than anyone else. The ultra-competitive junior finished second to current Stanford freshman Ella Donaghu in the 1500 meter run, and is gearing up to hunt down just about anyone this year in her signature event.

“The goal is going to be to win it, but there will be a lot of tough competition. Ember Stratton and many Jesuit girls will be right there alongside me,” says Donaghu.

“We got a shot at winning state here this year. It’s gonna be a long shot but we are gonna be in the race” says Stratton.

The winner of the triple jump at Sunsets first duel meet this season, Aesha Mokashi set a PR at the meet of 32’7.

“I feel pretty great with how it went. It was a foot PR. I’ve always loved triple jump so it was really great. I think it sets the rest of my season is set up nicely!” Says Mokashi.

The Sunset community is ready to watch one of Sunsets best sports tear it up this spring.

In case you haven’t heard, track is back. And they are better than ever.
